5 Children And It

Based on the book by E. Nesbit. Set during the Second World War, five children are sent away from their London home to stay with their strict and distant Uncle Albert. Their father is away fighting and their mother is serving as a volunteer, nursing the wounded. They discover that their Uncle lives in a strange dilapidated mansion by the sea with a friendly but crazy housekeeper called Martha and his son Horace, a small boy with a laboratory in the basement - an evil scientist in the making. The children discover a secret passage under the house that takes them to a strange beach and on the beach they accidentally dig up an 8,000 year old sand-fairy, a Psammead, called 'It'. What they thought was going to be a dull summer in the country is about to become the most exciting summer of their lives...
